EDSS and Earthscape have a unique educational partnership. Through this relationship, Grade 11 Workplace students are exposed to industry principles of landscape design and construction and then translate their in-class learning into real-time practice. Working together, Earthscape and the students designed and built a revitalized and previously under-used inner school courtyard.
Tables made of stumps and slabs of natural stone, atop an interlock patio, entice students to eat, socialize, or start homework under the abundant shade of the mature maple tree. An accessible deck surrounding an existing birch grove allows for either sunny or shaded leisure while offering a platform for presentations. Additional trees, garden beds, rocks, picnic tables and benches now give a park-like feel to the once barren courtyard.
