The playground at Pilgrim Wood Public School in Oakville incorporates natural materials with bursts of colour to brighten up the environment. Winding pathways and gardens around the playground create smaller activity zones including a shaded turf area, an amphitheatre, and a sand play area. Non-prescriptive play elements allow kids to play in their own way. Timber borders and a cluster of log steppers in the sand play area offer informal gathering and seating areas. Chalkboards offer opportunities for creativity and learning in the playground. A play hut offers quiet seclusion from the activity of the playground. The versatility of the playground design allows for the child care curriculum of the school to be incorporated into outdoor play.
