Earthscape BACKSTORY Feature in Landscape Architecture Magazine

The February 2019 issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine includes an Earthscape BACKSTORY feature about our design process. Specifically featured are the larger-than-life ladybug and bumblebee sculptures that we designed and built for Washington Park. We teamed up with local landscape architecture firm Stream LA or this playground in Denver, Colorado. Haniya Rae spoke with our playground designer, Laura Williams, about the design process for the bumblebee and ladybug sculptures. These pieces are in the junior area of the playground. They also discussed the larger playground design, which includes two linked tree house towers and a large Log JamĀ®. These more advanced features are in the senior area of the playground.

Washington Park is a custom natural playground with a forest theme. With every custom project, Earthscape designers always begin with hand-sketching. Some of the preliminary sketches for Washington Park were included in the article. After discussing the initial concepts with the client and consultant, Earthscape models the preferred design solution in three dimensions. With construction documents in hand, the Earthscape fabrication team gets to work building our designs. A photo of the ladybug in our shop is also included in the article.
