Product Overview
The Double Hammock is twice the fun with two hammocks, suspended from one post in an offset arrangement. The Double Hammock enables children to play together and socialize, each while rocking in his/her own hammock, or in multiples as they sit or lie down together.
The Double Hammock offers greater flexibility within a medium-sized play space taking up a larger footprint than the Single Hammock.
Play Value
The Double Hammock has two hammocks (each 1800mm x 750mm flexform / approximately 6 feet by 2.5 feet) and comes in either flexform or net. You can choose two hammocks of the same material or one of each type of material (flexform or net) to create a more unique design with the space.
In plan view, the Hammocks are configured at a 130 degree angle from one another. When mounted, one side of the Hammock is higher, so that a person’s head can be higher than their feet and so that friends can socialize close to each other in a comfortable space. Double Hammocks are arranged so each one can safely swing or rock without interfering with the other. The Hammocks encourage balance and spatial awareness.
Merits
The Double Hammock allows for social play, when friends gather together. They are encouraged to consider spatial awareness, and develop rhythm, if swinging (pushing) their friend, and the close proximity of each hammock allows for easy discussion and storytelling when lying next to each other.
Swinging on the Double Hammock helps to support proprioception and vestibular senses and fosters the development of coordination and movement skills in a fun and new way. It also offers a defined space for relaxation and regulation.
Accessibility
The Double Hammock is an accessible ground-level play feature when situated on an accessible path or surfacing.
Materials
The Double Hammock is suspended from black locust posts. There are two options for the hammock itself: either a black flexform rubber hammock (with small holes for drainage) or a net hammock. The flexform rubber is held by nylon-wrapped steel core rope. The net option also uses nylon-wrapped steel core rope.
