Art Gallery of Ontario playground design released

Soon to be one of Canada’s most unique playgrounds, the design for Grange Park is now publicly available. In homage to the neighbouring Art Gallery of Ontario and OCAD University, the playground elements represent components of an artist’s studio.

The project is funded by the AGO, the City of Toronto and private donors. The Prime Consultant and Lead Designer (park and playground) is PFS Studio. Working alongside them is local landscape architecture firm thinc design, the AGO, and Earthscape (playground structures design-build).

The Art Gallery of Ontario playground represents an artist’s studio after a frenzy of work. The playground includes junior and senior play areas. The north playground, for younger children, features climbing structures themed as a spilled paint can and crumpled paper. The south playground, in an equal state of disarray, offers a colourful artist’s palette alongside conté crayons and a squished paint tube. The art-themed playground offers high play value and inspires creativity and exploration. It will be a new urban landmark destination for Toronto’s children and visitors.
