LABash 2019 – Storytelling through Play

LABash 2019 was a trip down memory lane for Laura and Dan, two of our playground designers and project managers. An annual event, LABash is a gathering of Landscape Architecture students from across Canada and the United States.  It was first hosted at the University of Guelph, Laura and Dan’s alma mater, almost 50 years ago. The conference is now an annual tradition that is hosted by different universities across the continent each year.

LABash 2019 was hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens. Laura and Dan attended the event and hosted a workshop entitled “Storytelling through Play – An Ideation Workshop for Children’s Playgrounds.” During the workshop, participants first learned about playground theory and design and saw examples of awesome playgrounds. Secondly, working in teams, they worked through a case study to propose designs of their own. Dan and Laura provided teams with trace paper, pens and markers to let the ideas flow. As a result, conference attendees mingled, shared ideas, and learned to work in groups – critical skills for landscape architects!

Dan and Laura had a blast attending the conference and meeting up-and-coming landscape architects from across North America. We look forward to participating in future LABash conferences.
