The children’s playground at Met Park at Amazon HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia is a natural play oasis. Designed with James Corner Field Operations, the timber playground structures blend beautifully into the park environment.
The playground design allows children and their caregivers to immerse themselves in the biophilic design of the natural play feature elements.
Playground structures are tucked between and among trees, boulders, and planting beds. Shaded spaces and seating options are integrated into the site. The overall layout creates a natural flow for children, affording never-ending open-ended play opportunities. Children of all ages will find unique play experiences for social, physical, sensory, and cognitive development.
The 2.5 acre Metropolitan Park is now a part of the fabric of the Arlington neighbourhood and will have a positive impact on the Greater DC area as it becomes a central public space for residents and visitors.
Metropolitan Park is Earthscape’s second playground in the DC area; Georgetown Day School was completed in 2020. Earthscape also worked with JCFO on the Presidio Tunnel Tops Outpost playground in San Francisco, CA.
